The Clearing / Folkestone Triennial 2017
We are excited to announce the opening of our latest project, a public artwork that also serves as the hub space for this years Folkestone Triennial and was commissioned by the Creative Foundation. The Triennial runs from 2 September to 5 November.
It has been featured in Dezeen, Wallpaper magazine, the Observer / Guardian newspaper, and Frieze magazine.
The Clearing is an immersive installation intended as an invitation to explore the feelings created by the vertical, gothic tree-like forms, along with our primal human response to occupy or gather in the ‘clearing’ between. The forest-like gothic forms are Anglo-French in origin, appropriate to Folkestone as maybe the historical arrival point for master builders and masons. The Clearing also proposes a connection between gothic architecture and pre-modernist early 20th century central European expressionist architects such as Bruno Taut and Hans Poelzig.
